Abstract
Fundamentalism is identified as a major problem in the modern world. Fundamentalism expressed through patriarchy, religious, nationalism, ethnicity. When fundamentalism is used politically it gives rise to cultural and ethnic fundamentalism. Nationalist fundamentalism is the anti-reactive construction of nation in relation to existing social organization, as identified by familiar and essential practices and beliefs that seek to purify and perpetuate nation through identification with outsiders. The nation is thought of as an anti-modern religious state as opposed to a multi-ethnic modern state. The process of fundamentalism is dualism: the dual categories of right and wrong, good and evil are established by elites. A favourite fantasy of fundamentalism in the language of politics is totalitarianism characterized by ideological control. The fundamentalist formula includes a theologian's call for a return to an age of social and theological justice, and an antiquated alternative to evil. Nationalism is a deceptive concept and a set of political assumptions founded on the strength of political power and the fierceness of self-determination. Masses or power relations set the stage for political programmes that are essentially described by nationalist narratives. It incorporates traditional principles into modern social life and completely rejects any social responsibility criticism. Culture is an essential component of individual and collective identity that resonates politically in virtually all societies. Culture is the context in which our individuality is made meaningful. Where culture is repressed as in colonial relations. Strategies for the recovery of culture and the resurgence of political power flowing from culture are part of a colonial narrative.
