Various practices and events centered on women’s lives are an important topic of study in the history of literature. Various issues such as women’s freedom dowry system, child marriage, etc. Come up in the beginning of the topic. One such topic that has been studied is the pain of widowhood among Bengali women, which has existed from traditional ancient times to modern’s times. In the Bengali Novel genre, the theme of widowed women is portrayed through various characters. In the works of Bankimchandra, Sharatchandra, Rabindranath Tagore, Tarashankar, Manik Bandyopadhay, widowed women have sometimes been stigmatized by society, and sometimes have resorted to hard work to fulfill their unfulfilled desires, leading to tragic consequences. When did those women become the head of families, they lead their lives in an independent minded manner, on a firm path of justice and truth. Although each of these characters had different paths, their lives were not filled with the pain of not getting anything, but with the desire to establish themselves as human beings in society.
