Abstract

Mahasweta Devi's novel inspires us in many ways. Let us remind her in her birth cenetary. We know that the rule and exploitation remained the same even after India's independence, and this is also reflected extensively in Mahasweta Devi's novels. The colonial power has always tried to maintain its dominance; on the other hand, postcolonial consciousness provides the inspiration to stand up against this colonialism. Mahasweta Devi mainly used her real-life experiences in writing novels. Actually she believes in the 'documentation of society'. In her novel 'Jhansir Rani’, the voice of women's protest begins, which is completely anti-British protest. Again, the novel 'Aranyer Adhikar' displays the Santal community's fight for their own rights. From the end of this novel, we can see the beginning of another novel 'Chotti Munda Ebong Tar Teer'. This novel has images of fantasy. In her another novel ‘Kavi Bandyaghati Gnayir Jiban O Mrityu’, Mahasweta presents the tragic consequences of the aspirations or dreams of a lower-class person. Mahasweta Devi wants to break the feudal social system, liberation from social exploitation and rule through the destruction of imperialist power. Judging from this perspective, the values of postcolonial consciousness are easily captured in her novels. Let us find the postcolonial consciousness among tribal people or lower-class people.
