Abstract

Tarashankar's stories vividly depict various communities of the Rarh region, such as the Santals, Bagdis, Bouris, Bedes, and Doms. He strongly believed in human dignity, echoing the idea that humanity stands above all. in Tarini Majhi, the conflict between love and self preservation result in the triumph of survival, while the relationship between tarini and his wife sukhi highlights mutual dependence, care and affection. In Bedeni, the character Radhika represent the complexity of human desire and instinct, revealing a natural yet intense side of human nature. In contrast, Daini portrays the tragic life of superstition, exposing the ignorance and cruelty of society. In Nari O Nagini, Tarashankar explores the tension between desire, love and marital conflict through the character of Khora Sheik. Torn between his attention to the snake-woman and his love for his wife Jobeda. He faces a tragic end shaped by emotional conflict and human weakness. In motilal, he presents a poor, physically unattractive couple whole deep love and humanity shine despite hardship. Overall, Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay introduced a new direction in Bengali literature by focusing on marginalized communities. His works are marked by deep human sensitively, realistic portrayal, and a profound understanding of life's complexities.
