Abstract

The character of women is presented in a multidimensional manner in Bharat chandra Raygunakar's kavya Annadamangal. Where the role, position, power and limitations of women are all reflected together. Here, women are on the one hand the ideal housewife and chaste woman, and on the other hand the symbol of strength and motherhood. The aspect of women's divinity and power is revealed through the goddess Annada, which indicates the importance of women in society.

            In the Annada mangal kavya written by Bharatchandra Raygunakar, women are not only a part of household life, but also play an important role in the progress of the story. In the case of human women, although they are bound by the rules of society and dependent on men, they protect their position through patience, tolerance and intelligence. The kavya depicts their sorrow, sacrifice and struggle, as well as the subtle aspects of conjugal love and family relationships. The goddess Annada is at the center of the Annada mangal kavya. She is not only the goddess of worship, but also a symbol of power. Through her, women are presented as a mother figure on the one hand and a source of power on the other.

             Through a discussion of the main story of Bharatchandra’s kavya Annadamangal, we will try to understand how the women depicted by Bharatchandra in this kavya has become a mixed reflection of both limitations and power- which clearly highlights the reality and values of medieval society at the same time.
