Abstract

If we look at the history of the world, we will see that for ages, one class of people has ruled, and another class of people has been ruled. Most of the time, the powerful want to oppress the weak. They control a class according to their wishes. But sometimes, the lower class in the social structure unites or individually resists the power. They take power into their own hands. As a result, the weak become strong and they control that power according to their needs. When this resistance develops from being oppressed, another history is created. Mahasweta Devi has written numerous stories and novels on the subject of the weak becoming strong, doing something for themselves. How this issue is highlighted in Mahasweta Devi’s short stories will be discussed in this article by selecting a few stories. The stories selected for this article are ‘Behula’, ‘Jatudhan’, ‘Bichan’, ‘Draupadi’.
