Abstract
This study tries to understand the educational inequalities among students in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in this study. A total of 180 respondents participated in the study, including 150 students (75 boys and 75 girls), 15 teachers, and 15 parents. Information was collected through questionnaires and interviews.
The study attempts to understand educational inequality from the viewpoints of students, teachers, and parents. It explores the reasons behind these inequalities, their present condition, and their effects on students' educational opportunities. The findings show that factors such as family income, parents' educational background, place of residence, availability of educational resources, and access to technology play an important role in creating educational inequality.
At the same time, initiatives such as Kanyashree, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and other welfare program have played an important role in promoting girls' education and reducing dropout rates. These efforts have helped to create awareness and encourage greater educational participation among girls. Therefore, ensuring educational equality and achieving meaningful women's empowerment require the collective efforts of teachers, parents, communities, and government agencies.
The study also suggests some possible measures to reduce these inequalities and to ensure equal educational opportunities for all students. The findings may help teachers, parents, educational institutions, and policymakers to understand the problem better and take necessary steps to reduce educational inequality.
