‘পার’ চলচ্চিত্রের চিত্রনাট্যে সামন্ততান্ত্রিক সমাজ কাঠামোর নান্দনিক রুপায়ণ/ The Aesthetic Depiction of Feudal Social Structure in the Screenplay of ‘Paar’

Abstract

Famous director and screenwriter Gautam Ghose directed the film 'Paar' in 1984, based on Samaresh Basu's short story 'Paari'. The story depicts how a fleeing Dalit couple, trying to escape feudal atrocities in Bihar, falls victim to the heartless exploitation of selfish oppressors in a capitalist city. The protagonist, Naurangia, and his wife Rama represent the exploited peasant class. The film portrays the indifferent injustice and oppression of the feudal system through characters like Bhola, Hari Singh, the Sardar, and the Mahajan. A protest erupts in a Dalit village of the 'Mushahar' caste in Bihar's Munger district after the government fails to grant them their rightful dues. For the displaced proletarian couple, there remains no path to satisfy their hunger amidst deep isolation. Ultimately, Naurangia has to endure the relentless cruelty of feudal rule and exploitation until the end of the screenplay.
