Abstract
Veda is the fountainhead of Indian wisdom. The Vedic literature upholds a panoramic view of ancient Indian society and culture. It is noteworthy that the Vedic scriptures unequivocally established agriculture as the backbone of ancient India’s socioeconomic structure. The Vedic seers shed light upon the various aspects of the ancient Indian agricultural system. Preparing the soil, means and methods of tilling, techniques for watering, and guarding ripened crops— all these significant dimensions have been explained by our venerable ancestors. It is fascinating to observe that they engaged in discussions pertaining to agricultural industries and policy. This article is a humble attempt to provide an initial sketch of these interesting facts, which often bear a striking resemblance to the agricultural practices of modern times.
