The struggle of life with the passage of time : Sushil Jana & Bhagirath Mishra/ প্রসঙ্গ কালের বিবর্তনে দরিদ্র জীবন সংগ্রাম : সুশীল জানা ও ভগীরথ মিশ্র

Abstract

After the advent of Bengali fictional short stories, a significant shift in their central themes was taken place after the First World War. Moving beyond personal narratives, these stories began to reveal societal truths such as class-divided structures, class struggles, and the exploitation by rulers through the authors’ writings. The struggles for survival faced by the poor and lower-class people, along with their deprivation, humiliation, and intense suffering, are vividly portrayed in the works of Sushil Jana, a contemporary writer of the time of the World War. However, the story of this lament does not stop even after the independence of India. Writer Bhagirath Mishra depicted a similar picture through his literary works. Although there is a gap of almost thirty years in the writings of the two writers, there is no particular difference in the life journey of the oppressed people portrayed in their stories. An attempt has been made to discuss these issues in this article.
