Abstract

In urban life, the specific customs and practices of people come to the fore through culture. Urbanism highlights the entirety of that culture and other specialities (money, family, business, education, employment). Through this urbanism, the quality of life, manners and behaviour of a city can be highlighted. And since the novel talks about individuals, the manners, customs, mentality, cultural scope and environment of the people living in the city or town come to the fore. However, here, the city or town life is described as the life of Kolkata. The nature of the impact of urbanization on the Bengali novels centred on Kolkata Post- independence has been highlighted. Although the characteristics of urbanization were observed in the novels of this period, its prevalence increased further after independence. But the picture of anxiety that we observe in families coming from the village to the city and returning due to various political, social and economic reasons in the past is also no less important.
