Samar Dev's 'The Tale of the Red Cross': The Context: Hegemony and the Crisis of Existence/ সমর দেবের ‘লোহিতপারের উপকথা’ : প্রসঙ্গ আধিপত্যবাদ ও অস্ত্বিত্বের সংকট

Abstract

A custom has become very influential in human society over a long period of time. The rule is encroachment by force. The struggle for supremacy begins from here. According to this rule the powerful people inflict in human torture on common people. The writer Samar deb has written the novel about the chaotic life story of the Working-class people and their efforts to overcome it. Depicting the plight of the very common people sheltered by the suddenly rising the bed of rivers, their regular struggle in flood prone areas and struggle of supremacy with the indigenous people over the settlement of low caste destitute people who migrated to the riparian areas, being a minority in a different environment, they have to face various deceptions and neglect due to lack of proper identity cards. Attempts to classify the Bengalis of Assam as Bangladeshis, the ups and downs of their lives, their refugee problems are the main subjects of this novels. Due to the lack of fixed place for settlement, river grazing has finally become the only hope of these exploited people. The fate of homeless people has been shrouded in impenetrable darkness due to over-activity of powerful rich people. The struggling and sensitive life stories of the oppressed people are highlighted in this article.
