Politics in the selected play writes of Bratya Basu/ ব্রাত্য বসুর নির্বাচিত নাটকে রাজনীতি

Abstract

Bratya Basu is a play writer, essayist, theatre artist, actor, film director and critic in the field of literature simultaneously. Play writing is a major role of this multitalented personality. My topic of discussion is one of the aspects of his play writing. 

         Since 1993, Basu is contributing in Bengali literature with his play scripts. Politics have been one of the main-topic of his scripts till now. ‘Winkle Twinkle’(2002), ‘Virus M’ (2003), ‘17^th July’ (2004), ‘May Dibosher Latok’ (2005), ‘Operation 2010’ (2005), ‘ Page Four, It’s also a game’ (2006), ‘Krishnagohowor’ (2007), ‘Comrade kotha’ (2008), ‘Ruddhasangeet’ (2009), ‘Bhoi’ (2009), ‘Altaf Gomes’ (2013) and ‘Boma’(2015) are the plays with direct or indirect political plot by Bratya Basu. 

        ‘Winkle Twinkle’ is his first play write with political scenario. This play portrays the picture of 1970s; social issues of that period and people suffering with the issues. The conflicts between CPI(M) and TMC have been addressed.  The plot revolves around the central character Sabyasachi. ‘Krishnagohowar’ is first play in Bengali literature with the plot of homosexuality. This play directly portrays the political scenario of Nandigram that time. The political uncertainty and human life is the topic of discussion here. ‘Ruddhasangeet’, written in 2009 has three layers in the single play itself- political party, institutional politics and politics by media and newspaper too. ‘Boma’ written in 2015 has of historical plot of Indian independence.
