Children’s literature by Hasan Azizul Haque: A discussion/ হাসান আজিজুল হকের শিশুসাহিত্য : একটি আলোচনা

Abstract

Hasan Azizul Haque, who was born on 2 February 1939 and died on 15 November 2021, was an eminent writer from Bangladesh who has written famous short stories and novels regarding Bengal partition and liberation war, his stories and novels are very much popular in both India and Bangladesh, but it is a lesser-known fact that he has written very few (only 7) short stories and a novel for the children too. His seven short stories and novel for children is a blend of humor, laughter and social reflection, because as a socially sound writer he wanted to make them face the reality. But keeping in mind that he was writing for children, he made such characters, that some of them will make children laugh as well as some of them will make them learn something. The stories and the novel have such wonderful tales of timeless relationships, suspense, fighting for living and pandemonic situations. Every single tale has its own wonder, somewhere there is a battle of jealousy, somewhere, the strength of friendship between a boy and an animal conquers all the odds against them. Somewhere we can see a hilarious situation regarding a hunting, in some story it will be seen that how much fool a person can be, in another story a journey will be described through the eyes of an animal. Here, not only the humans, but also the animals will give some subtle messages. These various tastes will make the children feel the real essence of life. As a writer he has successfully fulfilled his responsibility to blend his writings as per the children. Though the young readers haven’t got so much writings for them from his side, but how much they have got, it is obvious that along with them, the grown-ups will also enjoy those writings.
