Abstract

The Bengali novelists of the Brahmaputra region have made a remarkable contribution of the Bengali Literature. Migration, social conflict, resentment etc has already began to a new narrative of Bengali novels. Mridul kanti Dey is a renowned writer in the Northeastern and Bengali literary world. His novel “The Last City” is about the small incidents of life and how Tanushankar involved himself with them. The writer has described in detail how he tried to establish himself from Guwahati city to Kolkata. The novel deals with how the lifestyle of the middle class was affected, especially during the Emergency. Movement politics revolves around the novel and love, family, college life, moving from one city to another, struggling to establish with self-confidence. In this analysis we have tried to find out the uniqueness of this narrative.
