Abstract

Buddhism is quite popular thought in the cultural history of world. In modern times particularly in the post-modern period, poets of Bengal sought for a potential and valid root for their existence in contrast to the pervaded sense of darkness and decay. Many of them took elements from Buddhism and used it to their own poetry to give it a completely new creative ever-expanding dimention. Here we discuss two poets, Alokrangan dasgupta and Manindra gupta, who did this but the treatment is different in each case. Alok is mahayani in mood whereas in manindro we can trace one kind of hinayani spirit. However in both case religion has achieved poetic fragrance and even transformed according to the intellect of modern man. We can justly say that religion is poetry now-a-days.
