Pratyaher Ekdin' and 'Gharer Katha' : Extraordinary Narratives of Everyday’s Ordinary Home-Life/ ‘প্রত্যহের একদিন’ ও ‘ঘরের কথা’ : দৈনন্দিন সাধারণ গৃহজীবনের অসাধারণ আখ্যান

Abstract

One of two storytellers of the 20th century were Prabhat Devsarkar and Mihir Mukhopadhyay. Many of their stories were published in many eminent magazines and little magazines of that time. Besides short stories, they also wrote several novels. But inspite of writing so much in so many magazines for a long period of time, they did not get that much recognition in that time. In fact, due to the lack of collection of stories and scarcity of other books, there is no such discussion about their literature even now. Prabhat Devsarkar and Mihir Mukhopadhyay's short stories can also be said to be less discussed. In the present article, after introducing these two forgotten storytellers, we have discussed two of their stories. Both the stories were published in 'Desh' magazine in alomost similar time. In Prabhat Devsarkar's story 'Pratyaher Ekdin', the picture of the everyday life of the lower middle class is vivid. And Mihir Mukhopadhyay's 'Gharer Katha' is actually the story of the common life of the rural people. Our discussion is about the extraordinaryness of this ordinary life reflected in the above stories.
