Abstract
Nabarun Bhattacharya’s dog-fable ‘Lubdhak’. The main basis of the author’s political view in this narrative ie all living things, human and non-human, have an equal right to live in this world. The balance of the ecosystem of the living world will be maintained only when the life support process of each microorganism is expanded and recognized by other organisms. The concept of human-centered civilization has caused the centralization of power. As a result only human life and human practices have come to the centre and circle of power from the political, economic and cultural aspects. But since the primitive age, it has been seen that animal world flow and evolve with equal importance. The creation of human civilization, the continuous tradition and the relationship between superhuman beings is very close. From the world’s oldest cave paintings, the approximately 45,500year old Sulawesi Wart Pigs in Indonesia, to modern medicine and behavioural studies, non-human animals have continuously played a role. It is better to say that they are forced to play a role. Space science today has gained another dimension thanks to the contribution of Leica. In spite of this, the inherent violence, cruelty, brutality, selfishness of man has marginalized animals and nature. Massive deforestation, cruel torture of animals under the pretext of scientific experiments, all are done with the trumpets of progressivism. Animals unable to protest, resist are pushed to the margins. The principle of communism is here distorted, destroyed. Everything in the capitalist system is about appropriation. Where the voice of the powerless remains unheard, the establishment of the rights of the animal world, to plead for them, is utopia. Nabarun is a Marxist writer. He raised the question of equal rights of every living being in the universe, expressed his views through his writings. In Lubdhak, in protest of various tortures, sufferings, oppression of dogs; in protest against the mentality of human domination, he wrote the story of rise of dogs across the city of Kolkata. Here Kolkata is a symbolic city; the whole world looks the same. The author brings to the narrative the Egyptian mythological god Anubis and the Greek mythological star Sirius, the brightest star in the Canis Major constellation. From which it is possible to easily reach the level of consciousness that the bright presence of various animals is very relevant in religion, astronomy, living since prehistoric times. Class consciousness alienated the weaker classes at all levels of civilization. In this narrative, the author breaks down the binaries of advanced and undeveloped, civilized and barbarian, centralized and peripheral. In style of Indian, Greek, Russian popular beast-fables, dogs spoke in an anthropomorphic style, rebelling against human cruelty. Finally leaving the city of Kolkata, the dogs procession is on it’s way to great exodus. Immediately after, the destruction of the city of Kolkata, which is a cosmic decision, begins as an inevitable consequence.
