Abstract

This study explores the potential of forum theatre, a participatory theatrical technique developed by Augusto Boal, to empower marginalized communities in India, particularly Dalits.

         Che Guevara's quote "Solidarity means running the same risk" highlights the disconnect between the ideal and reality of shared struggle. Janasanskriti, a pioneering Indian theatre group, has been using forum theatre in West Bengal to address this gap. Studies suggest this approach fosters social change, particularly for women seeking greater equality.

         We propose that wider application of forum theatre has the potential to significantly benefit the Dalit movement in India. This research investigates how forum theatre can be used to address specific issues faced by Dalits, explore the challenges and limitations of this approach, and assess its long-term sustainability as a tool for social empowerment.
