Abstract

Literature is an endless pathway that has a lot of turns. Literary theory helps us know the reason for these turns. Literary texts, especially novels, are one of the important mechanisms that showcase the beauty of literary theories. Be it western or eastern, literary theory always brings a new motive to a literary text. As we know, psychoanalysis is a literary concept or theory given by the Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. But it is really curious to know that before Freud, there were psychoanalytic concepts in literary texts. In famous Greek tragedies like 'Oedipus' or 'Medea', we can get the real essence of psychoanalytic views. Later, if we talk about Bengali literature, especially the Bengali novels, there is also the presence of psychoanalytic concepts, even before Sigmund Freud.
