Abstract
Nitya Malakar is an unforgettable name in the history of Bengali poetry of North Bengal. The poet was born on August 18, 1947 in the then East Pakistan. After becoming refugees from East Pakistan in 1956, his family took shelter in Nabadwip district of West Bengal. It was there that he came in contact with poets Arun Basu and Neelkant Roy, the editors of 'Palabadal' and 'Agyatbas' little magazine, and the initial basis of his becoming a poet was formed. In 1968, he started living in Khalishamari, North Bengal, with a job as a primary school teacher. There, poets like Arunesh Ghosh, Anubhav Sarkar, Santosh Singh, Subrata Roy etc. became acquainted with him one by one. Which broadened his field of understanding. Nabadwip was the preparatory phase of his poetic practice, which culminated in Khalishamari-Mathabhanga. The total number of poetry books of Nitya Malakar is six. In 2018, this poet's pen stopped forever.
Nitya Malakar's first book of poetry is ‘Sutradharer Swagatokti’ (1988). The book contains a total of 39 poems. Among them, 15 poems have been analyzed in the context of the text. A discussion of all the poems is not possible within the limited scope of the article. By discussing these 15 poems, we have been able to create some idea about the book of poetry. If we divide the poems in the book of poetry into categories according to the subject, we can find - poems related to personal life, poems related to artistic sense, poems related to philosophy of poetry, poems related to social philosophy, poems related to love, poems related to death, etc.
Many poets appeared in the Bengali poetry of North Bengal in the sixties and seventies. Notable among them are Samir Chakraborty, Sanat Chatterjee, Tushar Bandyopadhyay, Bimal Bhattacharya, Diptimoy Sarkar, Arunesh Ghosh, Pushpajit Roy, Ranjit Dev, Samir Chatterjee, Tridiv Gupta, Shamser Anwar, Ratan Biswas, Shasthi Bagchi, Kamlesh Raha Roy, Tuhin Das, Bratati Ghosh Roy, Neerad Roy, Punyashlok Dasgupta, Kankan Nandy, Vijay Dey, Samar Roy Chowdhury, Benu Sarkar, Samiran Ghosh and others. It is not difficult to recognize Nitya Malakar in the crowd of these representative local poets. The main reason for this is the structure of Nitya Malakar's poetry. Apart from the subject, he has been able to create a separate discourse in Bengali poetry only in construction. His extraordinary mastery of cursive and prose and his extensive use of similar words have made Nitya Malakar a permanent fixture in Bengali literature.
