Abstract

The Scheduled Tribes of Rarh began their early life as hunter-gatherers but later became shepherd and now focus on agriculture. Once accustomed to forest life, these people left the forest life in due course, but they could not break their bond with the forest and other elements of nature. If we look at their economic and cultural activities, we can see that their dependence on the natural environment is the root of their lives. Therefore, the forest dwellers of Rarh have been worshiping this nature-environment as a field of livelihood and a playground of cultural-religious activities through their faith-reformation sibce time immemorial. Today they feel comfortable identifying themselves as Sarnadharma i.e. worshipers of nature. Nature and environment are closely involved in their clan reform, livelihood, rituals. Therefore, the activity of these tribes is quite relevant in the environment in the current aggressive urban culture.
