Abstract

The History of literature in Cooch Behar district is much earlier. No such type of glorious history can be noticed before any other native state of the Country. Sometimes kings are leading from the front. They always encourage the people of Cooch Behar to read, write and preserve their own literature, Culture and History. Also in Cooch Behar District all types of Book, literature, grammar, puthis, Scripture are available. To preserve and highlight the regional History and Culture the journey of Cooch Behar Sahitya Sabha was started in the second half of the 20th century. About the progress and position of the literature of the Cooch Behar state Historian Jadunath Sarkar's comment is very significant. He said, "The translation of scriptures is very much available in this literature, there is no translation of Mahabharata, Ramayana in Tripura. Cooch Behar has it, Cooch Behar is more prominent in terms of old translations and numbers''. So In my article I have tried to highlight the Background of the Cooch Behar Sahitya Sabha and point out its role in the practice and preservation of regional history.
