Abstract

Bhagirath Mishra has a wide range of diversity in the contents of his short stories. From politics to social values, romance to humour- he explored in different areas or topics. In his early stories he was analytical about the impact of extreme left and leftist politics upon the society and human lives along with its significance, misuse of power and corruption. His thoughts on contemporary politics are also reflected in his recent stories. Poverty, starvation of marginal, poor people due to natural calamity, deprivation or the infamous famine of 1943 were plots of his many stories. Rural life, its superstations, characters of various professions, class conflicts are also seen in Mishra’s short stories. He also talked about lust, jealousy, and immoral relations in love stories from psychoanalytic perspective. He is not only a storyteller of marginal people, but also quite aware of urban life and its crisis. Moreover, Bhagirath Mishra is famous for his Humorous and witty stories too.
