Abstract

Sadhan Chatterjee, a writer of alternative genre, from seventies to today, for the past six decades, has created a stir in the intellectual world of the reader by writing narratives of different flavors. Instead of the quick fame of mere entertainment, his stories and novels have emerged as a dangerous weapon against the oppressive society. He has mastered both story and the most difficult form of modern literature, Novel. On the other hand, his entire literary life is reflected in his ‘Prose books’ like Kathapat, ‘Somoyer Satpach’ etc. Sadhan Chatterjee, in his essay Narrative: The Equation of Story and Non-Story’, has called his contemporary writers as ‘seventies chronotopian’. Naxal riots in the 70s, the establishment of a left-wing government against Congress government, the fall of the Soviet Union in the 90s, the onslaught of globalization-corporaization, the monstrous dominance of flat culture, mall culture since the beginning of the 21st century, and the contempt for humanity have made the fiction writer’s narrative a path of diversity. v
