Multifaceted passage of women's life in Suchitra Bhattacharya's short stories/ সুচিত্রা ভট্টাচার্যের ছোট গল্পে নারী জীবনের বহুমুখী উত্তরণ

Abstract

The emergence of Suchitra Bhattacharya as a progressive writer in Bengali literature. She was also a progressive woman personally. She entered the Bengali literary world as a short story writer. Her writing focuses on the position and characteristics of women in the context of time and society, as well as the rough lives of the middle and lower classes. She is different in creating female characters. She has written many short stories which deal with various problems-crises, transitions in women’s life. Every female character created by her is unique. She did not limit women to being daughters, wives and mothers, but taught them to live in their own identity. In her writings, we also find a picture of women’s economic independence, where after divorce, the woman is not depend others, the woman who has abandoned her husband is fulfilling her responsibilities alone with children. In addition to self-reliance, we also find images of high-spirited, prejudice-free and inertia-free women in her collection. Because it is through a woman that new life comes to the world, both boys and girls. As a result, the mentality of the mother has more influence on the formation of the mentality of sons and daughters than that of the father. The story of such an ideal mother is also found in her short stories. In this way, she has led women from various problems and crises to the path of enlightenment. Being a woman, she not only wrote the life stories of women, but also talked about the state of mind of men in her various novels and short stories. She enriched Bengali literature not only by writing short stories and novels but also by writing famous detective stories.
