Abstract

Now a day’s social media is well known name to us. In our daily life we spend a lot of time in social media. Social media established it’s supremacy on our life and on the other hand all of us use social media for various purposes directed by the predominance of different particular intention. Modern Bengali fictions basically short stories depicted this politics related to social media.

     At present Facebook is the most popular social media. We use it for various quests. Sometime Facebook is used for seeking particular information. In the novel of Sirsendu Mukhopadhya named ‘Tupi’, Facebook has been used for such purpose. Facebook can be used to identify the criminal. In the short story of Suvarna Basu named ‘Andhar Rater Atotayee’ Facebook has been used for the same. Krishnendu Mukhopadhya’s story ‘BramhaPakhi’ depicted how the rumour in the Facebook and also other social Medias rouses greediness and consequently harming us. There are so many bad effects of social media. One of those is spreading of pornography. In her short story ‘Ringa Ringa Roses’ Sayantani Putatunda described such kind of abusing of social media.

      WhatsApp is one of the popular social medias. It is very much adorable especially to the lovers. There are so many short stories in the Bengali literature where love especially extramarital love is in the WhatsApp. ‘Facial composite’ written by Rajdeep Ray Ghatak,‘Freeze’ written by Indranil Sen are the examples of such kinds of short story. Social media has introduced us with a new kind of love affairs that is called virtual love or virtual love affair. Bengali short story also depicted this particular kind of love affair. ‘Chhayapath’, ‘Muk O Bodhirder Jonnya Ekti Bikel’ or ‘Khelnabati’ written by Vinod Ghoshal, ‘chyanel’ written by Sijar Bagchi, ‘Ebar Facebooke Kobi Pronam’ short story of choitali Mukhopadhyay etc. are some examples of such kinds of stories.

      Addiction to the social media is not good for us. Doctors and psychiatrists suggest us to reduce the using of social media. At present Bengali short story depicted the pictures of giving up the social media. ‘Bankadar Path’ written by Tamal Bandopadhyay ‘Gantobbya’ Written by sheersha Bandopadhya, or ‘Dana Nai Ure jaay’ written by Kishalaya Jana are the instance of that kinds of stories. If we see this fact with the political point of view, it will be realized that it is nothing but a combat for establishing the supremacy of man upon the social media.
