Abstract

Novelist Hasan Azizul Haque (1939-2021) utters a unique voice in the context of two Bengal’s literature. His skill in depicting the constant struggle of man in the face of unforgiving antagonism of state-politics-society and nature is astounding. Derived from the diverse experiences and imaginations of his own life, his works are unsurpassed in their stylistic inspiration and commitment. Hasan Azizul Haque is a socialist writer; He created literature for the exploited and oppressed people. The Partition of 1947 was a significant political event in the Indian subcontinent. As a result of which the geography of India has not only changed, the relations between people and them have also changed. The changing inter-relationships of people controlled everything including politics-economy, literature-culture, diplomatic relations of divided India. Hasan Azizul Haque is one of those rare fiction writers whose bulk of writings are narratives of the impact of Partition on individuals and society. Several of his works present a multi-dimensional picture of the desperate desire of a life endangered by partition. In writings like 'Uttar Basonte', 'Attoja o ekti Karobi Gach', 'Parobasi', 'Mari', 'Khancha', 'Dibasopno' and Agunpakhi (2006), Shiuli (2006) etc. exposed suffering as a multi-dimensional reality. Hasan Azizul Haque's novel Agunpakhi Bengali fiction is distinguished by the various crises of the common people wounded by communal violence in the background of people's shattered expectations and broken dreams in the pre-Partition East Bengal. Hasan Azizul Haque, a writer who is deeply historical, has sharp political observation, and has a keen eye for psychoanalysis of individuals and society, has become a unique biographical writer with the achievement of portraying the endangered humanity in the country.
