Rabindranath's 'Post Office': An intense longing for the distant in anticipation of freedom from bondage/ রবীন্দ্রনাথের ‘ডাকঘর’ : বন্ধনমুক্তির প্রত্যাশায় সুদূরের প্রতি তীব্র আকুলতা

Abstract

Rabindranath's contribution to Bengali literature, a world-renowned literary man with versatile talent, is simply unparalleled. He has appeared on the canvas of plays with various issues of human life. Nature, human-mind, joy-pain and many accounts of getting-not-getting may be found in the dialogues of his plays, in the movement of characters and in various expressions. He adopted a completely new attitude to compose plays according to his needs. Instead of making the actual scene the subject of the drama, he wanted to dramatize an idea with the help of metaphor-symbol-mystery, without giving priority to reality in the drama. The topic of discussion of this article is, in the novel style of allegorical drama, Rabindranath's 'Dakghar' drama portrays the intense longing for the unknown and the unknown in the hope of freedom. He felt the immense joy of liberation and the peace of attainment against the background of natural eternal truths. In 'Dakghar', his emancipated mind has repeatedly peeked into the novel uniqueness of art creation. With temporary repose, closeness to nature, and occasional separation from all the entanglements of the world, he became physically much stronger—overcame mental fatigue and the sudden fear of death. As he felt an indomitable desire to get out of the blocked life and breathe a breath of freedom, he seemed to think that only through death would he regain that free life. And based on this, it can be said that the perspective and canvas of the play 'Dakghar' was created from the experience that temporarily overwhelmed the poet.
