Abstract

India got Independence in 1947 Even after gaining Independence long Subjugation, upper caste lower caste rich and poor did not disappear from the society. Untouchability has not been erased. The oppression of the upper class against the lower class in Continuous. And these Lower class people have come up in various story novels after Independence. By the Lower class we mean the neglected, oppressed lower class of the Society. All most every Post Independence writer has a penchant for writing about the lower classes. Novendranath Mitra, Kamal Kumar Majumdar, Samaresh Basu, Sunil Gangopadhyay all have more or less marginalized peoples in their stories, Tarashankar Banerjee, a well known Humanitaria writer of Bengali Literature is one of them. He is basically a fiction writer of Rarha. He was born in a remote village of rarh bonga, and that's why his soul is connected with the people there, Tarashankar lived for 74 years, all these years of his life he had experienced various experiences. Itis revealed in many of his stories. In his Short Stories he has beautifully portrayed of the lower caste people of rarha banga who are passed away as untouchables. We find in his story the life Struggle of the people of various caste like Dom, kahar, Bagdi, Bauri, Santal etc. Living at the lower level of the Society Tarashankar Story revolues around marriage life, Living with ancient Superstitions and adopting strange rural habits. The Poor and helpless people of Birbhums rarha region are the characters of Tarashankar's Story and these are the ones that makes the Authors writing real and rich.
