Abstract

In Contemporary Bengali writings, Dalit literature is an important cultural and political phenomena. For a long time, while the mainstream literature rejects the life-world of the marginal people, Dalit literature has given a voice and vision to them. Manoranjan Byapari is an important writer in this line. In his short stories, we get Dalit lives under the precipice of everyday prattle. His writings reflect Dalit consciousness not just as a political resistance, rather the complex underplay towards the making of Self hood. Therefore, this paper presents the identity and Self hood of Dalit lives in the short stories of Manoranjan Byapari.
