Abstract

Anil ghorai, the author of Marginal People, has depicted the stories of working people in his novel ‘piyasharan’. The novel has a total of nine chapters. Each chapter has a different story and character. The chapters have different sections. The male and female characters in the novel associated with work such as pulling rickshaws, selling flowers and leaves, housemaid, selling brooms, etc. They have to face various forms of discrimination, endure harassment at work, and face many hardships. Their personal lives, love, and other topics are featured in the novel. None of them gave up in the battle of life. The stories show that they wanted to find their own sky despite a hundred hardships. Each story in the novel is neutral and self-contained. No story complements another, yet they are part of the same novel. An underlying deep similarity has given coherence to the stories. This paper discusses the type of plot the novelist uses in this novel and how he has written the story.
