প্রোফেসর শঙ্কু : কল্পবিজ্ঞানের সীমা ছাড়িয়ে/ Professor Shanku: Beyond the Boundaries of Science Fiction

Abstract

Scientist and writer, who was none but Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose had opened the way of writing science fiction in Bengali. But Satyajit Ray is the most popular and accepted writer in that facult His stories of Professor Shanku is on the top of best sellers list, even today. But He never thought of making a series which would last for long years. Due to a huge acceptence he planned to continue that series. In his 32 shonku-stories he potrayed a character of scientist and also of a great human being. Shonku faced the money-mongers with his innovation and intelligence. Satyajit Ray also potrayed some animals who became personified. Thus his stories crossed the limit of science-fiction and became a humanist character. Beside all these Ray always given shonku a warm shade of bengalee gentleman who is always proud of his city, culture and principle. In four stories we tried to explain all these features of that loveable character. But it is a misfortune that bengalee science fiction got no reception in world stage. European science fiction writers are famous in all over the world. But Adrish Bardhan, Anish Dev, Premendra Mitra got no fame as science fiction writings which they deserved. Satyajit Ray made a legacy of his own but that too in film. We had to accept that misfortune but also we should be glad that a legend like Satyajit Ray had done his works in Bengali Literature.
