Abstract

The poetry movement that began in the mid-nineteenth century centered on various newspapers and magazines gained popularity in the twentieth century. For various reasons, those movements did not last long but they left a clear impression on the minds of readers. One such poetry movement that aroused great response was the Hungry Generation movement. In November 1961, the poets who formed the Hungry Generation movement from Patna and chose a novel method to accelerate the poetry movement by publishing manifestos like handbills. Although the movement was mainly centered on poetry, the manifestos expressed their views on issues such as religion, sexuality, freedom, politics and etc. They did not give priority any vulgarity in the use of words in the manifestos or poetry. They try to destroyed the mentality and strategy of capitalizing on institutional sextuality by making sexuality natural in poetry or prose. Therefore they had to face police harassment. To suppress the movement, the police administration arrested Malay Roychoudhury, the leader of the movement. As a result the news of movement spread very quickly in the country and abroad and Varrious reports of discussion and criticism were printed in newspapers and magazines. Although the movement was initially halted in 1965 but the movement was taken forward by the agitator under a different name.  As a result, separate histories were created, due to which various controversies can be seen about the time of organization and the creator of this movement.

Only the Hungry activists raised their voices against institutionalism and traditionalism. The movement has carved a separate place in Bengali literature by writing different genres of literature that have attacked the core of traditional values. It also created a stir in art, society and politics. Sins the hungry activists expressed their thoughts and feelings through handbills, it was not possible to preserve all the bulletins published. the Hungry Generation were very careful about the use of words, subject matter and the context of their poems.

The expressed it through a manifesto. They moved to towards a radical change in traditional literary thought, literary language etc. They wanted to create a simple style. The characteristics of their writing style will be highlighted through stylistics judgement. Their perspective on literary writing will be highlighted. In stylistic judgement, priority will be given to aspects of word use, parallelism, sentence structure characteristics and the use of imagery.
