Abstract

Maynaguri block of Jalpaiguri district is a very ancient region. Geographically and historically Maynaguri is significant, and it equally important in terms of folk culture and folk literature. Just as the Teesta, Jarda, and Jaldhaka rivers have flowed through Maynaguri from ages, so some of the region's folk songs have been passed down through the generations. Bhawaiya, Mecheni songs, Bishahari songs, Chorchunni, Satyapir songs, Gamira dance and songs, Baul songs, and Palatiya songs are all prevalent among the people of Maynaguri. Similarly, the popular Tukkha songs of the Rajbanshi community are also noteworthy. These Tukkha songs were primarily prevalent among the people of the Rajbanshi community. There was a close connection between Tantric practices and Tukkha songs. Although the prevalence and spread of these Tukkhya songs are not very noticeable today at maynaguri. These can still be heard in the voices of elderly members of the Rajbanshi community in remote villages of maynaguri. In this article, we will attempt to highlight the history, tradition, and spreading of Tukkha songs.
