Abstract

In 1932, Rabindranath Tagore traveled to Persia (modern-day Iran) upon receiving an invitation from the Persian King, Pahlavi Shah. He chronicled his experiences of this journey in his travelogue titled 'Parasye' (In Persia).

​          The travel-loving poet did not merely enjoy the pleasures of the journey. The travelogue reflects how deeply the communal issues in contemporary British-occupied India had troubled him. The value of this work is multifaceted; 'Parasye' serves as a profound testament to Tagore’s deep reflections on India.

​          In this account, while the evolving public life and state of contemporary Persia are vividly portrayed, Tagore’s literary prowess makes the narrative lucid and engaging. In essence, reading Rabindranath’s 'Parasye' provides the reader with a sense of intellectual pleasure.
