Deshvager Fasal : ‘Atmaja O Akti Karabi Gach (দেশভাগের ফসল : ‘আত্মজা ও একটি করবী গাছ’)

Abstract

The race who fails to raise question for its existence are to face extinction. Questions set with high reason may overcome every Odds. Logic or reason is the sanctum sanctorum of questions as these Pave the path to freedom. Lack of reason has no road to freedom and this is an obstacle to freedom. A baseless two-nation theory bleeds the freedom of Bengalese by means of barbed wire. Any rootless nation thrives all its life upon the barbed wires to re- established their entity. Freedom brings eternal peace to any nation. But Bengalis received the agony of barbed wire boundaries for them. Such freedom is rarest of the rare in the world because for Bengalis, it actually brings barrier for their own fate as they got freedom void of reason. The political parties for their own interest satisfied the long cherished dream of the Britishers. To end the British Colonial hegemony, Bengalis themselves are stuck in the foul play of iron. The dangerous and beautiful. Experience of the Partition has been looted in the veins of Bengalis. The lack of visionary among the partition leaders and their love for power ruined common people. Deprived of the nectar of freedom, Bengalis lost their memory, entity and future. The result of freedom to them is like eating the oleander fruit. Freedom did not bring any positivity to them, rather dipped them in the eternal gloominess. Partition is a tragedy for Bengalis. The dangerous blow has ripped apart their entity and such feelings is expressive in literature too.

               This question mark is the tag bearer of their entity. Literature is the junction where the present meets the past and shows the future. Partition has dipped us in the darkest gloominess and is reflected in several literature. Hasan Ajijul Haque is one of the Pioneers of such social depreciation whose short stories are full of emotions related to partition. His short story ‘Daughter and an oleander tree’ depicts the void of partition. To depict the pale and depreciating society and personal sacrifices he narrates his story.

                On one night of darkness the writer exposed the wrong policies, secret history. Such secret stories get expressive in his latent thoughts. In the story we see a fox arises first with a hen in its mouth. That symbolic death is somewhere present in our future. The entire story is a symbolic gesture where a fox destroys human feelings, like the hen in the mouth of the fox. An old fathers pitiful experience of selling her daughter's sanctity for thriving life is also expressed and he exposed the hollowness of the country. Such honourleft situation is the product of Partition.
