Depiction of Manbhum – Purulia’s Nachni, Rasik and Jhumuria in Youdhistir Maji’s Novel : Research and Review (যুধিষ্ঠির মাজির উপন্যাসে মানভূম – পুরুলিয়ার নাচনি, রসিক ও ঝুমুরিয়া প্রসঙ্গ : অনুসন্ধান ও পর্যালোচনা)

Abstract

Among all the novels that have been written in Bengali literature focusing on the lives of Manbhum-Purulia’s Nachnis, two notable additions are ‘Baghmundir Radha’ and ‘Rajnartaki’ wtitten by Youdhistir Maji. In these two novels, he sheds light not only on the Nachnis, but also on the patrons of the Nachnis, various landlords and Rasiks, as well as Nagars and Jhumurias. If we want to know the social position of the Nachnis, their relationship with the Rasiks, the history of their suffering, proverty and despair, we have to turn to these two novels. While sketching the characters of Radha and Bishakha, the two heroines of the two novels, the novelist has penetrated into the essence of the contemporary social and politic al life and presented the reality in the guise of story. This is the great thing about literature. The main purpose of this essay is to explore the real history in context of these two novels.
