Abstract
It is evident that the human civilization has attained its zenith within the first half of the twenty first century through the rapid modernization and development of Science and technology. But this process of development has been always faced questions in a repeated manner due to this gradual socio-economic degradation. If we want to inspect the real reason behind this, we have to light our thought towards the present scenario of the education system, the base of human civilization.
Present day’s education system is deviating gradually from the actual definition obtained from EDUCATION. Externally our civilization has been become enriched through our educational planning, tradition, science & technology but the internal emptiness is destabilizing the whole system. As a result we are facing social intolerance and natural disaster regularly. Now the time has come to adapt such system of education which is capable to create fraternity, knowledge base, tolerance within the human society of this globe. This type of education system is quite similar with the education system propounded by Rabindranath Tagore.
Tagore wanted to free the child mind from the synthetic civilization and tried to develop a positive vibration and connection between human mind and Mother Nature. This thought of Tagore was converted into reality through the establishment of Bramhacharjasram at Santiniketan. According to Gurudev regarding the tradition observed in Bramgacharjasram, that here students achieve an asset which are not related to class room i.e. related with joy of living and connected with nature. Human soul establishes its connection with the purity of nature. This asset cannot help in the examination but it helps in the fulfillment of the life. Songs were the main part of this system and Tagore tried to build the philosophy of life of the students through songs. These season based songs were become the pivotal medium of the nature centric education. This is why Tagore started nature centric festivals at Santiniketan. This festivals have vital roles to establish connection between the student’s mind and nature. But the class room education is not capable to do this properly.
Now a days the Tagore thought of education is evident in most of the part of our life. As a country develops itself not only through the participation in the rat race of the globalization but also through the value system, environmental awareness , moral development and these are the important factors for the proper development. We must place the environmental awareness in the garland of life and education system for the holistic and overall development. This phenomena of education was reflected in the system of Vedic TOPOBAN and also in the arena of Santiniketan, the abode of peace.
