Nakshi Kantha is the most traditional and important domestic needle-craft art of women in Bangladesh that displays the multiracial and multi-religious expressions of motifs. These motifs indicate the desire for self-expression as well as the demonstration of the artisan’s objectives. Nakshi Kantha is not only a decorative quilt but also the canvas for self-expression, values, and beliefs of rural women of Bangladesh. They produce the art in recycling depleted materials like sharees, lungis, and dhutis are stitched to form embroidery quilts for their necessary purpose in a particular use. Though it is a very old traditional artistic element of material art but for its unique design and elegance, it is a fascination to the people of Bangladesh and West Bengal of India till contemporary period. Various type of Nakshi Kantha in style, form, fabric or technique has been found in different places of Bangladesh and every region has its own style. This article is an attempt to study and understanding of several types of Nakshi Kantha of Bangladesh.
