Narayan Gangopadhyay is a poet, novelist, short story writer and literary critic. At one hand he has shown the society in his short stories, also the love and psychological conflicts of the men and women in the society have also come up as well. The author has been able to express what he has gained from his real life experience and feelings in his writings. In his story, nature and love become one. Not only the marital relationship but also the complexity of the relationship, emotional conflicts, doubts, has developed the story of breakup in the literature as well as the atmosphere of the new path has been created with these. He has shown his uniqueness in each short story. His story lacks the exuberance of romance, no familial-social tug of war, but the sharp appeal of the subject matter becomes resonant through his narrative quality. An underlying pity touches the reader’s heart with a silent but deep sparkling. The stories are coordinated in the thick weave of word-language-description. The interweaving of emotions, reality, civility with the plot makes the short stories engaging, unique and rich in art, which are palatable to the inquisitive reader. The principal quality of the author is prominent in each of his easy-telling stories, the suffering, degradation, breakdown of values of contemporary society and individual– his short stories reveal the truth like the sharp sword in every subject.
