Abstract
The post-independence writer Afsar Ahmed has presented the ‘inner voice’ of Muslim women in his fiction. His ‘Ashrumangal’ is a novel written on social life of Muslim women. The author has beautifully depicted the biographies of marginalized muslim women in this novel. Apart from that, the novelist has also highlighted the aspects of social problems such as polygamy, illicit love, homosexual love etc.
The four women of Muslim society are Badran, Lalman, Manowara and Hafeza, are oppressed by the patriarchy. The different problems and crises of their lives have been coinaged in his narratives. In the pride of being deprived of love, Hafeza wants to cover the flames of her love with ashes. But how long? So, she had to tasted Nader’s love and wanted to have an extramarital relationship with him instead of getting married. But his dream also disolved due to the cruelty of the society. Her husband Muharram wants to rescue her agian. The novelist explored the eternal love and linguishment of four heroines in this novel. But he could not pave the way for the settlement of charity and Their life and desire remain tearful.
